While 8.5-oz. cotton twill was considered the standard weight for World War II uniform fabric, it was almost replaced in the Pacific theater by a cotton poplin similar to what you see before you here. Stateside field testing in Florida proved it to be cooler and more comfortable in hot weather. Mercifully, the war ended before new uniforms could be produced. Less is truly more wherever staying cool is a way of life.
